Collapsed building owner cited

The city Department of Buildings Monday issued a violation to the owner of the East Harlem building that collapsed the day before, disrupting Metro-North Railroad service, city officials said.

A violation was issued for failing to maintain the exterior wall of the building, and the buildings department anticipates issuing additional violations as its investigation into the collapse continues, said agency spokeswoman Kate Lindquist.

A spokesman for the building's owner, Kushner Companies, where New York Observer Publisher Jared Kushner is a principal, would not comment on the violation but said the company is focused on safely demolishing the building.

An adjacent building was damaged in the collapse and also will be torn down. It is unclear how long demolition will take.

Metro-North service was temporarily halted for an-hour-an-a-half Tuesday. Service was operating on or close to schedule Wednesday.
