SI, Bronx, Queens to elect new DAs

New Yorkers will go to the polls Tuesday in a barely noticed election day.

Voters will pull the lever for district attorneys in Staten Island, the Bronx, and Queens, and choose council members in Staten Island and Brooklyn. Additionally, surrogate and civil court judges will be on the ballot.

The race that has achieved the most attention is the district attorney's race on Staten Island, where Republican-Conservative Borough President James Molinaro endorsed Mike Ryan, a Democrat, even though the GOP incumbent, Dan Donovan, once worked for him.

Molinaro was angry that Donovan passed a probation-violation case against his grandson to a special prosecutor to avoid a conflict of interest. Molinaro's grandson, Steven Molinaro, was sentenced to prison.

In this Democratic-leaning town though, what little drama this election cycle held was on primary day, back in September.

"It's not the most important election we've ever had," said Elinor Miller, co-president of the League of Women Voters. "A lot of the people who will go are the people who consider it a duty and vote in every election."

Polling sites will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
