New York’s Finest and New York’s Bravest squared off in their annual NYPD vs. FDNY basketball game.
The civil servants played at the Barclays Center court on Jan. 26 to determine the top first responder team.
Fans came out in droves to cheer on the police officers and firemen as they went head to head. Proceeds from the event went to support the PBA Widows and Children’s Fund.
“This game is all about bragging rights, but it is also about coming together for a great cause,” an NYPD player told amNewYork Metro.
“I always look forward to this match up, I have friends on both teams. They look forward to this every year. It is the only day they don’t like each other,” fan Sidney Barry-White said.
Ultimately, the FDNY prevailed and was victorious over the NYPD with a score of 74-62.
“Congratulations to the @FDNY Bravest on their victory. We’ll be back for that trophy next year!” the NYPD said on Instagram.
“The FDNY is proud to stand alongside the NYPD as we raise money for great causes! Until next time!” the FDNY said on Instagram.
