Brooklyn detectives are on the hunt for the suspect who shot a man dead at a public housing complex on Wednesday night.

Police said the homicide happened at about 9:12 p.m. on Feb. 12 behind an apartment building in the Tompkins Houses at 744 Park Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Officers from the 79th Precinct and NYPD PSA 3, in responding to a 911 call about the incident, located the victim, a 37-year-old man, with a gunshot wound to his chest.

EMS rushed the victim to Kings County Hospital, but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead a short time later. Police have withheld his identity, pending family notification.+

The motive for the shooting was not yet known and is under investigation. Bystanders lamented the gun violence.

“What sense does this make?” one longtime resident asked. “You are only going to spend the rest of your days in jail when the cops catch you anyway.”

It was the first reported homicide in the 79th Precinct this year; the most recent CompStat report had zero murders in the command through Feb. 9. The precinct also recorded just one shooting year-to-date.
