Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) announced that its new state-of-the-art cancer care pavilion, which is currently under construction, will be named The Kenneth C. Griffin Pavilion at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
The new building is designed with the growing cancer needs of the future in mind, with advanced technology for patient care, leading-edge robotics, a digital infrastructure, and enhanced operating and procedure suites. Located on York Avenue between East 66th and East 67th Streets, the building will be exclusively for patient care.
The Pavilion, as the name suggests, is named in honor of Kenneth C. Griffin, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Citadel and Founder of Griffin Catalyst, who made a landmark gift to support clinical innovation at MSK in 2023.
“Ken’s generosity is unparalleled in its impact on our organization and our ability to advance MSK’s mission of ending cancer for life,” said Selwyn M. Vickers, MD, FACS, MSK’s President and CEO. “Through his landmark contribution, Ken is improving the lives of people across New York City and around the world, helping MSK continue providing world-class, leading-edge cancer care as the field advances devoted and the incidence of cancer increases. We are deeply grateful for his exceptional contribution.”
“The extraordinary team at MSK is saving lives every single day, offering not only world-class medical care but also compassion, dignity, and hope to the patients and families facing the challenges of cancer,” said Griffin. “The new Pavilion ensures that MSK’s physicians, scientists, nurses, and staff have the world-class facilities required to meet the evolving needs of cancer patients. I am honored to support their life-changing work.”
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified full-service facility is being built within MSK’s existing footprint. A two-story bridge will provide a connection to Memorial Hospital between the two buildings and ensure access for patients and staff.
