“The Jonathan Larson Project,” a new Off-Broadway musical built using 20 unknown songs from the archives of Jonathan Larson (the author of “Rent,” who tragically died the night before its Off-Broadway debut in 1996 at age 35), will play its final performance at the Orpheum Theatre in the East Village on Sunday, March 30. It had been slated to run through June 1.
The cast includes Adam Chanler-Berat (“Next to Normal”), Taylor Iman Jones (“Six”), Lauren Marcus (“Be More Chill”), Andy Mientus (“Smash”), and Jason Tam (“A Chorus Line”). A cast album from the show’s original concert version at 54 Below is available for streaming.
‘Private Lives’ to receive Broadway revival – but cast unknown
Noel Coward’s 1930 screwball comedy “Private Lives” will be revived on Broadway during the 2026-27 season – but who will play Amanda and Elyot, the rich divorcees who unexpectedly reunite while honeymooning with their new spouses and impulsively decide to run off together? It’s strange to announce a revival of a star vehicle without naming a star. The play, which has been produced on Broadway eight times, was last seen in 2011 with “Sex and the City” star Kim Cattrall and Paul Gross.
Paper Mill to stage ‘Bull Durham’ musical
A new stage musical adaptation of the 1988 sports comedy film “Bull Durham” (with Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon, and Tim Robbins) will be produced in the fall at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse as the first show of its 2025-26 season, which will also include productions of “Frozen,” “Come From Away,” “1776,” and “West Side Story.” “Bull Durham” will be directed by Marc Bruni, who directed “The Great Gatsby” at Paper Mill last year before it transferred to Broadway. The current Paper Mill season will continue next with the new dance musical “Take the Lead,” which will be followed by “The Little Mermaid.”
Nicole Scherzinger adds Tuesday night performances as Norma Desmond
Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the hit Broadway revival of “Sunset Boulevard,” starring Nicole Scherzinger as the faded silent screen star Norma Desmond, will not extend its Broadway run past July 13. However, for those looking for tickets to the popular production for Scherzinger (rather than Mandy Gonzalez, who plays Tuesday night performances), Scherzinger has added six Tuesday performances to her lineup, including April 8, April 29, May 6, May 13, May 27, and June 10.
‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ receives final extension, bringing all-female cast rumor into doubt
Despite rumors that an all-female cast would eventually take over the new Broadway revival of David Mamet’s “Glengarry Glen Ross,” the show’s producers are claiming that the production will only play through June 28 following a “final” two-week extension. The all-male cast of the play, which is currently in previews, includes Kieran Culkin (“Succession”), Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”), stand-up comedian Bill Burr, and Michael McKean (“This Is Spinal Tap”).
