Spring is officially arriving in Queens as the New York Mets return home from a six-game season-opening road trip for their first game of the 2025 campaign on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Emerging at an even .500 (3-3) following stops in Houston and Miami, the Mets return to Citi Field for the first time since last season’s miraculous run to the NLCS, where a hero’s welcome will surely await them.

For as much gratitude as there will be for last season, there will also be an immeasurable amount of excitement for the season to come. Juan Soto is making his Citi Field debut, with his arrival ushering in what many will hope to be a golden age for the franchise.

The Mets’ bats have been inconsistent to start the season. They were held to just five runs by the Astros during an opening series in which they dropped two of three games.

Pete Alonso carried the offense down in Miami, hitting a grand slam in Monday night’s 10-4 victory before coming up with a game-tying three-run home run in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s series finale. He drove in four runs that night while the Mets won 6-5 in 11 innings.

Probable starting pitcher

Tylor Megill will get the ball for the home opener after a brilliant season debut in Houston. The right-hander allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts in a walk last week in the Mets’ lone win against the Astros.

Strong starts to the season are commonplace for Megill. Across 12 career starts in March and April, he is 8-2 with a 2.76 ERA.
