Brooklyn homicide detectives are questioning the brother of a man who was shot to death at a public housing complex early on Saturday morning, sources familiar with the investigation said.
Police said the deadly shooting happened at about 2:30 a.m. on April 5 inside an apartment within the Nostrand Houses at 3012 Avenue W in Sheepshead Bay.
Officers from the 61st Precinct and NYPD PSA 1 responded to the location after receiving a 911 call regarding a man shot.
Upon arriving at the scene, they located the victim, a 31-year-old man who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body.
EMS rushed the victim to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Police have withheld the victim’s identity, pending family notification.
During the preliminary investigation, police took a man, identified as the victim’s brother, into custody for further questioning. Police believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Charges against the person of interest are pending the results of the ongoing investigation, police said.
The shooting appears to be the 61st Precinct’s first homicide of 2025, according to the most recent CompStat report. The command had reported zero murders and shootings year-to-date through March 30. Overall crime in the precinct is down 14.02% for the year.
