The state-run agency said it will increase NYC Transit bus service on 16 local routes across Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island beginning June 29.
Bus riders have been looking forward to the increases in service since Gov. Kathy Hochul first announced them on Dec. 17, 2024.
“I promised better, faster bus service — and our investments are making that a reality,” Hochul said. “New Yorkers deserve affordable, reliable transit options and that’s exactly what these enhanced bus routes will deliver.”
The service increases were put in place to help shorten commutes and make travel easier throughout the boroughs.
The following buses will operate at an increased frequency or with better timing starting June 29:
The Bronx
- Bx10 (Riverdale-Norwood)
- Bx17 (Port Morris-Fordham Plaza)
- Bx23 (Co-op City-Pelham Bay Park Station)
- Bx28/Bx38 (Co-op City-Fordham Center)
Brooklyn
- B17 (Crown Heights-Canarsie)
- B26 (Fulton St-Ridgewood)
- B74 (Sea Gate-Stillwell Avenue Station)
- B103 (Canarsie-Downtown Brooklyn)
Queens
- Q13 (Flushing-Ft. Totten)
- Q28 (Bayside-Flushing)
- Q35 (Rockaway Park-Midwood)
- Q43 (Jamaica-Floral Park)
- Q66 (Flushing-Long Island City)
- Q69 (Long Island City-Astoria)
Staten Island
- S46/S96 (Castleton Avenue)
- S79 SBS (Staten Island Mall-Bay Ridge)
The updates follow an increase in express bus service that kicked in on March 30. These buses include the X27, SIM1C, SIM4C, SIM23, SIM24, BM2, BM5 and QM15.
According to the governor’s office, the service enhancements will cost $8 million this year, paid for through the Outer Borough Transportation Account. The state legislature established the account ahead of congestion pricing to improve transportation service in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island.
Enhancements arrive alongside the launch of the Queens bus network redesign

The enhanced bus service goes into effect on the same day the MTA will launch the first phase of the Queens bus network redesign. MTA officials said the initial phase will include 16 new routes and 67 route changes for the 800,000 riders who use the service every day.
The second phase will launch on Aug. 31, featuring a new route and 37 altered routes. More information about the redesign is available at mta.info.
