A purse-snatcher in Chelsea left a woman hospitalized during an early morning robbery attempt last week.
According to police sources, a 70-year-old woman was walking along West 16th Street and 6th Avenue at 1:40 a.m. on April 18 when she was approached by an unknown person who grabbed her purse.
As the pocketbook was yanked from her purse, law enforcement sources said, the senior was sent tumbling to the sidewalk, leaving her with a laceration and bruising to her face. The suspect fled on foot westbound on West 16th Street.
The incident was reported to the 13th Precinct. EMS rushed her to Bellevue Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
Police later found the stolen purse left behind on West 16th Street.
No arrests have been made, and detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect to come forward with information.
