Not only have the New York Giants come away with a game-changing edge rusher in Abdul Carter, but they just landed a potential franchise quarterback after trading back up into the first round to take Ole Miss passer Jaxson Dart.
New York nabbed the Houston Texans’ No. 25 overall pick at the 2025 NFL Draft for pick Nos. 34, 99, and a third-rounder in 2026.
Todd McShay of The Ringer, Peter Schrager of ESPN and NFL Draft guru Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network all had the Giants drafting Dart one way or another in their final mock drafts this week.
On Wednesday, Giants general manager Joe Schoen’s son posted a highlight reel of Dart on his Instagram story. His son’s account was quickly switched to private mode, leaving only his followers to see what he posts. Could he have known what his father wanted to do?
Who knows. The answer to that will likely never be released. Either way, the Giants landed what they believe is their quarterback of the future.
Dart will sit behind two veteran quarterbacks, and one of that’s won a Super Bowl in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.
Dart also has ties to Giants legend Eli Manning, who attended Ole Miss from 2000 to 2003. Charlie Weis Jr. is the Ole Miss quarterback’s coach, who worked under Brian Daboll, the head coach of the Giants, when the two of them were on Bill Belichick’s coaching staff in New England with the Patriots.
Lane Kiffin, the head coach of Ole Miss, was also succeeded by Daboll as the offensive coordinator at Alabama – two huge connections for the former Ole Miss quarterback.
Dart burst onto the scene after his 2024 campaign, throwing for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He completed 69.3% of his passes and rushed for an additional 495 yards and four touchdowns.
The 21-year-old is raw, but he’ll gain experience and knowledge from one very successful passer and one who’s fulfilled multiple roles during his NFL career.
