The body of a woman was found wrapped in a tarp and dumped on a Brooklyn street early Wednesday morning, police say.
A 68-year-old man is being held for questioning at this time, but few details have been released.
The woman, age not released as yet, was found wrapped in a black and white tarp in front of 550 East 21st Street near Ditmas Avenue in Flatbush, Brooklyn at about 4 a.m. When police from the 70th Precinct arrived with EMS, they found the woman was already dead at the scene.
The cause of death was not known at this time, and police are investigating whether the woman had died of natural causes and may have been dumped because the family was unable to afford a funeral home. However, police have not ruled out foul play.
Police were viewing building video surveillance and were examining a U-Haul truck that was parked near the body.
Residents of the block were shocked by the find.
“ This is nerve-wracking for the community. With everything going on, this makes it worse,” said Vivian Lopez, a resident of the block.
“I’m shocked, I can’t believe it. Unusual Place for this to happen,” said Clayton Wine, also a resident of the street.
“It is worrying – there are no cops patrolling. It is definitely odd circumstances,” said Shaddki Dixon, a neighborhood resident.
