BY GRANT LANCASTER
The Rochester-based grocery chain Wegmans, which opened its first New York City store at the Brooklyn Navy Yard last fall, now offers grocery delivery to Manhattan residents from their Brooklyn location using delivery app Instacart.
Shoppers can use the Wegmans website or app to check if they are within the delivery range and do their shopping online. Wegmans will deliver to all Manhattan ZIP codes, but delivery may take two to five hours because of the increased travel time, according to the press release.
Delivery costs start at $3.99 for orders of $35 or more, but Instacart Express members can get free delivery.
“By expanding our partnership to enable delivery from the Wegmans Brooklyn location into Manhattan, we’re giving New Yorkers a convenient, new way to get the groceries and household essentials they need from the grocer they love,” said Andrew Nodes, Vice President of Retail at Instacart.
Offering Manhattan delivery has been part of the plan for the Brooklyn location since the start, said Erica Tickle, director of e-Commerce for Wegmans.
The Wegmans store in Brooklyn, the first Wegmans in New York City, opened four months ago.
“We’ve heard from customers this would make life easier for them, and with major investments in e-commerce like our new website and app, the timing couldn’t be better to make ordering favorite Wegmans brand products and fresh foods available for delivery to Manhattan,” Tickle said.
