Manhattan Beer, one of the leading beverage distributors in New York, is officially changing its name to Manhattan Beer and Beverage Distributors (MBBD) to better reflect its diverse and growing range of products. Founded by Simon Bergson in 1978 as a small beer-only distributor, the company has significantly expanded over the years to include wine, spirits, non-alcoholic beverages, and mixers, now serving 14 counties across the region.

The name change comes as the company marks nearly five decades of growth and evolution. From its humble beginnings as a local beer distributor in Manhattan, the company has expanded its reach from Montauk to Midtown Manhattan and even to Monticello. This transformation is a testament to the vision and leadership of Simon Bergson, who established the company with a commitment to top-tier service for New York’s beverage market.

MBBD’s expansive portfolio still centers around its extensive selection of beer, including popular national brands like Corona, Modelo, and Coors, as well as craft beer heavyweights such as Blue Moon, Samuel Adams, and New Belgium Brewing. Local breweries, including Captain Lawrence and Brooklyn Brewery, also remain staples in their inventory. Additionally, the distributor offers leading flavored adult beverages like White Claw, Truly, and Twisted Tea, catering to the growing demand for innovative, ready-to-drink options.

In recent years, MBBD has broadened its product offerings to include a wide range of non-alcoholic options. Premium waters like Pellegrino, Voss, and Iceland Spring have been complemented by energy drinks such as Guayaki Yerba Mate, Mas+ Positive Hydration, and Zoa Energy, all part of the company’s strategic expansion into new categories.

MBBD’s wine and spirits division, which has been growing for nearly a decade, continues to make strides with a varied portfolio that includes spirits-based ready-to-drink beverages like Surfside and Sun Cruiser, wine offerings from Manning Estates, and liquor products like Molly’s Irish Cream.

The rebranding to Manhattan Beer and Beverage Distributors not only reflects the company’s broader product range but also reinforces its long-standing commitment to growth and customer service. The company’s vision remains clear: “We have the spirit of a winner – the most resilient, resourceful, and respected beverage distributor in America.”

As the company moves forward under its new name, it continues to focus on delivering exceptional service to customers, building strong partnerships with suppliers, and contributing to the communities it serves. The name change marks a new chapter in MBBD’s 50-year history, with plans for continued innovation and expansion on the horizon.
