It’s the day that music died.
Sam Ash announced recently that the chain would be closing all of its store locations. According to the New York Times, the Sam Ash family stated that the retailer couldn’t “compete in the era of online shopping.”
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that effective May 2nd 2024, all Sam Ash Music Store locations will begin store closing sales. This unfortunate news also presents a fantastic opportunity for great deals across our premium selection of musical instruments & pro sound equipment. We will also be offering specials on samash.com during this time. Thank you for allowing us to serve musicians like you for 100 years,” wrote the Sam Ash team on the chain’s website.
Sam Ash has a deep New York City history, with the first retail store opening for business in Brooklyn in 1924. In March, it was announced that Sam Ash would be closing several physical store locations, including stores in Midtown, Forest Hills, and Huntington, New York.
“For the last 100 years, Sam Ash Music has successfully adapted to meet the challenge of changing business conditions. As we look towards the next 100 years, the company must continue to adapt to ensure its continued success,” Sam Ash previously told amNewYork Metro in a statement. “Sam Ash Music remains committed to keeping a strong physical store footprint in the future while we continue growing our successful online sales offerings. As part of this restructuring, the company is closing several stores nationwide. This restructuring is emotionally tough, but we are confident these moves will make Sam Ash Music stronger as we continue serving the music community into the future, as we have for the past 100 years.”
As mentioned online, the store will be holding closing sales to move out inventory. There will be no returns accepted on any item purchased after May 1, 2024.
