A man wielding a machete menaced a group of teens outside their Staten Island high school Tuesday morning before vanishing, according to authorities.

Police said a mysterious man displayed his machete to a group of three 16-year-olds at Hamilton Avenue and St. Marks Place in St. George, just outside Curtis High School, at around 8:15 am before starting to chase them.

The man, who did not enter the school’s premises, eventually fled the scene and has not been caught. No one was injured in the incident.

A spokesperson for the Department of Education said that the students sought out the assistance of school safety agents and other school staff after the incident, and classes went on normally at Curtis High on Tuesday.
