Movember is officially upon us.
Facial hair aficionados partook in the 2015 National Beard and Moustache Championships Saturday at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. Contestants competed in 18 different facial hair categories to win the approval of the judges and the grand prize of a trip to the 2016 National Beard and Moustache Championships.
The judges of the competition were Huffington Post “crime and weird news” executive editor Buck Wolf, “One Thousand Beards: A Cultural History of Facial Hair” author Allan Peterkin, The Village Voice’s music editor Hilary Hughes, The Daily Front Row publication director Peter Davis, Santos Diaz of The Art of Shaving, and Ilegal Mezcal brand ambassador Elizabeth Emmer.
Master of ceremonies Byron Beck, a journalist and blogger based in Portland, Oregon, introduced the contestants and led the event, while Madison Rowley presented the awards to the winners.
Competitors with stubble, sideburns and whiskers congratulated each other with poise during the event, which benefited the FDNY.
