From the Bronx to the nation’s capital to superhero. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has inspired both a loyal following as well as heavy criticism in her first months as a congresswoman, now graces the pages of a comic book.
The new "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez And The Freshman Force: New Party, Who Dis?" will be released on May 15, and feature the freshman representative "taking on the GOP establishment from within," according to the publisher.
The comic is produced by Devil’s Due Comics, a company based in Chicago.
As part of the release, the company is putting out 12 collectible covers that were created in partnership with several comic book shops. On one, Ocasio-Cortez sports the white cape suit she wore to the State of the Union earlier this year, and another depicts her in a Wonder Woman-style costume.
Ocasio-Cortez, who previously worked as a bartender in the Bronx, defeated incumbent Joseph Crowley after being the first person to challenge him in a primary in 14 years. She won that primary election with 57.5 percent of the vote, and went on to beat Republican challenger Anthony Pappas in the November general election.
Josh Blaylock, the publisher of Devil’s Due, said in a statement that he hopes "everyone from comic collectors to fans of AOC and Washington politics will get a kick out of" the new comic.
