The theme for the 2017 edition of Electric Zoo is “The 6th Boro,” and the festival has grown to a size that makes the title seem logical.
Five different stages, each with fantastical designs borrowing from its host city, will welcome an expected crowd of 80,000 revelers to Randall’s Island this Labor Day weekend for the ninth edition of the Zoo, with some of dance music’s biggest names at the top of the bill.
The newest addition to the Zoo is 6 Pointz, a stage dedicated to New York area talent, including DJs and street artists.
Names like Agent Orange and Alex English will be familiar to local dance music fans, while others could be at the “opening set” stage of their careers. At a time of cookie-cutter lineups at festivals around the country, take a few minutes to check out your neighbors, and maybe find your next favorite local selector.
Got your neon outfit ready? Here are the weekend’s high points.
This year’s fest kicks off on Friday, Sept. 1, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 3. Visit electriczoofestival.com/lineup for set times and more.
