If you’ve ever experienced anxiety, you may have had a panic attack or two in your lifetime. A new show at the International Arts Relations (INTAR) Theatre aims to allow the audience to explore anxiety in a new way.
“Fun with Panic Attacks” is an immersive show that follows the story of Floppy, who has had anxiety her whole life. Created and performed by Florencia Lozano, the show draws from Lozano’s own panic disorder.
I have always had a strong urge to share my experience around my panic disorder because it was the isolation around that condition which truly imprisoned me and which I suspect, might isolate others as well,” said Lozano.
Those who attend the “Fun with Panic Attacks” are invited to check their belongings and shoes at the door (audience members are welcome to bring slippers or wear heavy socks during the show). In a choose-how-immersive-you-want-it-to-be theatrical experience, the show invites audiences to lie down on the floor or choose from both traditional and non-traditional seating options during the performance.
Lozano will be joined on stage by rgio Caetano, Silvia Dioncio and Vasilios Leon. Newly announced collaborators and co-conspirators are Raul Abrego, Christine Bruno, Monique Carboni, Andre Fratto, Paul Martinez, Dalia Sevilla, Iris Zacarias, and Carmen Zilles.
“Fun with Panic Attacks” will take place at INTAR Theatre, located at 500 West 52nd St., from Jan. 12-27. Tickets start at $35 and are available at intartheatre.org.
