When Governors Ball started in 2011, few people thought a large-scale music festival could succeed in New York. This year, Governors Ball gets its first major competitor in the Panorama Festival, which will debut in the same Randall’s Island location next month.
While music fans wonder if New York is big enough for two festivals, Governors Ball is moving ahead with a lineup that brings back some of the biggest names from its recent past, including Kanye West, Beck, and The Strokes. They’ll be joined by dozens of other acts such as The Killers, Robyn and Death Cab for Cutie.
But the big names aren’t the only draws. Here are a few bands worth showing up early for each day.
