Attention all Muggles: If you’re looking for tickets to the Broadway play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” but prices are too high, there’s a lottery you can enter.
Every Friday at 1 p.m., 40 tickets will be released on the official website, todaytix.com or the Today Tix app for some of the best seats in the theater, priced at $40 for every performance the following week.
You must sign up on one of the sites between midnight and 1 p.m. on Fridays to be in the running. Winners are notified between 1 and 5 p.m.
The show, which has been a huge hit in London, is a new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. It focuses on Harry Potter’s struggle to keep his past behind him and his son, Albus, who must deal with the weight of the family legacy 19 years after his father defeated Voldemort in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” The play is presented in two parts that can be seen consecutively on the same day or on different days.
Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender have said there are more than 300 seats for each performance priced as low as $40 for both acts.
You can buy a maximum of two tickets per parts and pick up the tickets at the box office on the day of the show. Be sure to check out the play’s Twitter for updates on the lottery.
Tickets are already going for as much as $5,800 on some resale sites.
The show’s Broadway previews began on March 16.
