South Korean idols LE SSERAFIM lit the Empire State Building in “fearless blue” in support of Make-A-Wish foundation Tuesday.
The Billboard hot 100-charting K-Pop girl group extraordinaries made sure to show their admiration of how fearless their super fan, Grace—a young girl from Ohio who suffers from an autoimmune disorder—by joining together in a lighting ceremony at the Empire State building on Sept. 10. In addition to granting a wish for their super fan, LE SSERAFIM also celebrated the release of their fourth mini-album CRAZY.
“So today to celebrate the album’s debut, LE SSERAFIM is partnering with the Make a Wish Foundation to inspire children with critical illnesses and to show them that anything is possible. Tonight, our world-famous lights will shine in light blue to celebrate the brand-new album,” Susanne J. Lieu said, Senior Vice President, Chief Counsel Real Estate for Empire State Realty Trust.
Grace smiled brightly as she posed next to her favorite idols, even donning her own rockstar look that fit in perfectly with the K-pop group. Phil Lussier, the CEO of Make-A-Wish Metro New York and Western New York thanked LE SSERAFIM, and their company HYBE, for giving Grace an opportunity unlike any other, as well as being a source of inspiration for other children.
“We are so excited to be here today, because it’s people around the globe that make wishes possible,” Lussier said.
The five-member group consisting of Chaewon, Sakura, Yunjin, Kazuha, and Eunchae gathered around the podium and explained why they chose blue as the color to imbue upon the Empire State Building.
“It’s so, so special to be lighting up the skyline with a color that’s so dear to us. So just to introduce what color it is, it’s ‘Fearless blue,’” Yunjin said.
“It’s a light blue that symbolizes the highest temperature of a burning star. It represents passion, independence, strength, hope and dreams, which I think also brings more meaning to our collaboration with the Make-a-Wish Foundation today, whose aim is to make as many dreams wished upon a star come to life. We hope we can share our team’s message of strength to everyone today, and we can’t go on without mentioning our fans,” Yunjin added.
Yunjin, who grew up in New York, shared that she was proud to return to her home state for the tribute that was being held at not just the most iconic location in the city, but also the “World’s Most Famous Building.” She continued to thank their fanbase, FEARNOT, who she states are their real dream makers as they embark on the VMAs performance, and newly released album.
“Thank you so much for the incredible love and support that you guys always give us. We’ve accomplished unimaginable things thanks to you, and just recently, you’ve made us chart on the Billboard Hot 100 with CRAZY, which is something we only as much as silently dreamt of but somehow, you guys made it come true. We will work hard to reflect this love back to you. Thank you so much for always believing in us, and today, I hope a ‘Fearless blue’ Empire State Building can signify something special, a dream, an overcome fear, or perhaps a silent wish to everyone,” Yunjin said.
LE SSERAFIM then took the elevator to the 86th observatory floor where they gasped in awe at the grandeur of the New York City skyline.
