High-profile stars will be notably absent from this year’s Academy Awards over a lack of racial diversity among the nominees.
Spike Lee, Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith and more celebrities were quick to announce that they would boycott the Feb. 28 show after learning that the nominees for best actor, actress, supporting actor and supporting actress are all white.
This is the second year in a row that all 20 nominees in the four categories have failed to acknowledge black actors and actresses.
Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs said on Jan. 18 that she’s “heartbroken and frustrated” by the lack of diversity, vowing “big changes.”
