This summer, The Second City opens its doors for its highly anticipated summer comedy camp. Each week-long camp session runs between July 7 and Aug. 1 and takes place in Williamsburg.

Available for ages 10-18, campers will build on their performance skills and self-expression in an inclusive, supportive environment. Guided by first-class performers and instructors, campers are encouraged to embrace their silly sides through improv, sketch and storytelling. All experience levels are welcomed, “from first-time jokesters to comedy connoisseurs.” The camp is a place for exploration, meant to cultivate communication, empathy, and creative thinking skills.

Mornings at The Second City’s camp start with improvisation, leading into comedy writing and specialty skills such as stand-up comedy, satire writing and clowning. They have breaks and lunch built into the day. By studying written materials and past work from The Second City, they learn the art of storytelling and scene structure.

Beginning as a small comedy cabaret in 1959, The Second City has grown into a global comedy empire with locations in New York, Toronto, and Chicago. Co-founded by Bernie Sahlins, Howard Alk and Paul Sills, The Second City has fostered generations of successful alumni from Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert. Their stages, Touring Companies and Training Centers have been influential in countless careers.

Beyond performance, The Second City’s corporate education arm, Second City Works, has partnered with over 600 Fortune 1000 companies to create events and professional developmental programs. These programs use the same techniques as on its stages for individual growth and improvement.
