Halloween events in NYC: Parties, tours, parades, haunted houses and more

It’s been 200 years since Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” first made its terrifying appearance in pop culture, changing the way we think about science and ourselves. The story has bewitched so many that its anniversary will not go unmarked in New York City.

From the Village Halloween Parade to a movie marathon at Nitehawk, Frankenstein’s monster will be celebrated this October.

Perhaps today’s modern version of the monster are robots, according to organizers of the Village Halloween Parade. They’re idealized versions of ourselves that we’ve created with electricity — not far off from Dr. Frankenstein’s monster. That’s why the parade’s theme this year is “I AM a Robot!”
