Olivia Benson fans unite! Rockefeller Plaza is getting an immersive takeover by the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” in honor of the beloved character and the 25th anniversary of the show.
The Olivia Benson Plaza, at the iconic 30 Rock location, is fully open to the public between March 14 and March 15. Walking into the fully transformed space, you can grab a complimentary drink from the Benson & Co. Coffee truck, supplied by La Colombe coffee roasters. True fans will notice each cup honors a different character from the show.
On its opening day, hundreds of fans formed a line stretching between 5th and 6th avenues waiting to get a glimpse of their favorite stars.
Marissa Godfrey, who has been watching the show for years, and was one of the first in line for the experience, shared she wouldn’t miss this event for the world.
“I’m here for the one and only Mariska Hargitay. She is the greatest role model in my life and I’m here to support her for what she has done on-and-off the screen. It’s historic,” she said. “These stars are a family now.”
Octavio Pisano, a detective in the show, highlights what he thinks makes this show connect with fans, “It’s about telling true stories and it’s also a form of therapy,”
Pisano said the “secret sauce” behind the show’s success is the character Olivia Benson.
Hargitay makes her mark on the event at the Fan Shop where attendees can pick up SVU friendship bracelets. Each bracelet will dedicate 25% of the proceeds to Hargitay’s Joyful Heart Foundation, supporting victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Law and Order: SVU has reached a major milestone in television history with its new season, making it one of the longest-running shows in television history. Long-time fans and new watchers can have the experience of being in the Law in Order world for a limited time only!
