The new food hall from the folks behind Gotham West Market kicks off its rotating pop-up of Brooklyn businesses with The Crabby Shack. Current offerings also include Southern BBQ spot Mason Jar, pictured, Spanish tapas restaurant Boqueria and four concepts by Dinosaur Bar-B-Que founder John Stage: the rotisserie-inspired Flip Bird, pizzeria Apizza Regionale, Bar Granger and the forthcoming breakfast spot Egg at the Bird. When a space across from the Barclays Center became available, chef Dale Talde knew he wanted in.
“We saw a real potential, with this proximity to the stadium, and being at the corner of three neighborhoods — Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and Park Slope — and just jumped on it,” said Talde, who opened the restaurant and bar Atlantic Social in mid-February across the street from the arena.
In the nearly five years since Barclays (home to the Nets and Islanders) opened, it has brought performers, from Ariana Grande to Barbra Streisand, to Brooklyn — as well as encouraged restaurant development in its footprint.
