A Tribeca institution is closing up for good this weekend.
Tribeca Grill, located at 375 Greenwich St., has been a staple in the community since it first opened its doors in 1990. Owned by restaurateur Drew Nieporent and actor Robert De Niro, the restaurant has accumulated a number of high-profile investors over the years, including Bill Murray, Sean Penn, and Christopher Walken.
“We have a wonderful staff in the dining room and kitchen (led by Chef Stephane Motir) who have maintained high standards throughout our history. We’ve given it our best, but the economics following the Covid Pandemic never fully rebounded for us,” said Managing Partner, Marty Shapiro.
The restaurant boasted a menu of New American cuisine paired alongside a massive wine list. Located on the first two floors of the building that houses the Tribeca Film Center, Tribeca Grill has been a go-to spot for events during the Tribeca Film Festival and has been a host to the 1973 World Champion New York Knicks, the Stanley Cup Champion New York Rangers, the Democratic National Convention, among several others.
According to Eater, Jean-Georges Vongerichten is reportedly in talks to take over the spot, however nothing has been finalized.
Tribeca Grill’s last service will be on March 1.
