The number of coronavirus cases continues to grow as New Yorkers anxiously await the apex in quarantine.
On April 2, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that New York State has a total of 92,381 cases, up 8,669 since the day before. Of those cases, 2,373 were fatal.
Cuomo said earlier that there were 51,809 cases in New York City alone. But data that the city’s Health Department released Thursday night indicated the coronavirus count fell just short of 50,000 infections.
As of 5 p.m. April 2, New York City tallied 49,707 coronavirus infections citywide.
Of the city cases, Queens continues to lead the way with 34% of the city’s infections, or 16,819 in total.
Brooklyn has the second-highest number of positive infections with 13,290 cases (27%), followed by the Bronx with 9,343 cases (19%). Manhattan has 7,398 cases (15%) and Staten Island has 2,822 (6%).
The DOH states that so far 1,562 people have succumbed to the virus: 499 in Queens, 421 in the Bronx, 385 in Brooklyn, 178 in Manhattan and 78 in Staten Island. Of those deaths, 1,145 patients had confirmed underlying conditions.
