On. Dec 3, the 36th annual Miracle on Madison Avenue glimmered back into the city in time for the holidays. Over 70 stores located between East 57th and East 86th Streets gave away 20% of profits to the pediatric segment of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSK).
Other than shopping, visitors met the Caring Canine Therapy Dogs of MSK and had the chance to take a complimentary pooch-purrfect portrait with celebrity photographer Andrew Werner. Also along with the dog theme, shoppers received a free pet illustration from Andrea Caceres with a receipt from a participating store.
Carolers in seasonal dress paraded up and down the streets and “Barkitecture” art displays of eclectic dog houses along the sidewalks by School of Visual Arts students were another highlight.
Although the event is now 36 years old, 2022 marks the 11th year that proceeds have gone to The Society of MSK, a volunteer group within MSK founded in 1946 that promotes the wellness of patients and further cancer research. The Society of MSK president Muffie Potter Aston and Associates Committee Chair Gillian Hearst with The Society’s Miracle Hosts Catherine Carey, Leslie Heaney, Sallie Giordano, Gretchen Gunlocke Fenton, Victoria Greenleaf Kempner, Candice Miller, Annelise Peterson and Alexandra Lind Rose all went shopping for the cause and to interact with other shoppers.
Memorial Sloan-Kettering itself is the oldest and largest private cancer center, rounding up over 135 years of treatment and hopeful prevention of cancer.
Popular participating stores in the event included Apple, Giorgio Armani, Jimmy Choo, La Maison du Chocolat, Marina Rinaldi, Michael Kors Collection, Ralph Lauren, Rose Box NYC, Upsilon Gallery, Zitomer and many more.
