Marsala may not be at the top of everyone’s list as far as wines go, but it’s been named tops in fashion for 2015.
The color experts at Pantone have declared Marsala the color of the year.
It’s an earthy wine shade “exuding confidence and stability,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, a color-forecasting group in Carlstadt, New Jersey. “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.”
Got that? Think a tad browner than burgundy, not as plummy as eggplant, yet not as pinky red as crimson or scarlet.
Pantone bestows this honor upon a new shade each year after gathering opinions from its researchers and color scouts who are out in the marketplace, surveying what shades are hot — and getting hotter — for upcoming seasons in fashion, beauty and home decor.
Marsala is good news for both men and women, fashion-wise. It’s a classic, appealing hue that works on everything from sweaters to shoes and ties. See for yourself, with these clothes and accessories.
