Hashtags have become synonymous with Fashion Week, but here’s one we never thought we’d see next to #NYFW: #NoMakeup.
Marc Jacobs’ show, the final event of the New York season, featured models au naturel, including beauties Kendall Jenner, Adriana Lima, Karlie Kloss and Jessica Stam.
They did wear dark wigs, with full bangs that sort of hid their mascara and liner-free eyes, to be fair. The vibe was very militaristic but still feminine, with backpacks, duffels, big button details, pockets, crisp collars and waists cinched by serious belts.
The sandals were pretty normcore (As Nina Garcia put it, “Dr. Scholl’s in satin and velvet”), but that was about all that was normal… models walked on a pink gravel runway around a 10,000-square-foot hot pink house while guests were asked to wear Beats by Dre headphones to hear Jacobs’ voice narrating along with the music.

The final shows of New York Fashion Week fell on Sept. 11, as many often do, and as always, designers worked to put an upbeat spin on a solemn day for the city.
From 1 World Trade Center standing tall in the distance above Ralph Lauren’s downtown venue, to Sarah Jessica Parker’s sentimental tweet on the way to Calvin Klein, to artist Enoc Perez’s skyscraper-inspired prints for J. Mendel, reminders of all we lost on that fateful day 13 years ago were everywhere, but so was the feeling of a stronger and more united city. As they say, the show must go on.
Perez said spending the day watching his NYC-inspired art walk down the runway as fashion felt just right. “It epitomizes that as New Yorkers, we just keep moving forward,” he said. “We will always keep moving forward.”
