New York Fashion Week’s hottest trends

“I’m excited about New York Fashion Week this season,” said Nina Garcia, the “Project Runway” judge and creative director of Marie Claire magazine. “We’re in this kind of ‘polar vortex’ moment, and designers are responding to it with comfortable, cozy clothes that reference the outdoors and outdoor winter sports.”
“There’re lots of layers, and so much rich detailing and texture . . . and color,” she says, citing fuchsia, wine, fire-engine red and blue as popular shades. “Color makes an editor happy,” Garcia said. Here’s to happiness and the top five trends for fall 2014. — ANNE BRATSKEIR
