Whether you’re a dog person or a cat person, 2024 has been a big year for adopting a new furry friend for your home.
For the first time ever, Adopt a Pet has released their “Unleashed” report, an interactive map highlighting each state’s most popular pet search trends of the past year.
According to their findings, New Yorkers gravitated toward affectionate, playful and snuggly breeds when searching for a new pet. The most popular dog breed searched for in New York was the Chihuahua. Coincidentally, this small feisty breed is the highest searched dog breed in the nation with 615,273 total searches.
The rest of New York’s top dog searches included the Dachshund at number 2, followed by Labrador Retrievers, Miniature Poodles, and Yorkshire Terriers.
For New York’s cat people, the top search was for the Maine Coon breed. Like the Chihuahua, the Maine Coon was also the most searched cat breed across the country with 109,632 searches. The cat search list for New York included the Ragdoll (#2), Siamese (#3), Russian Blue (#4) and Siberian (#5).
