Photographers Davide Luciano and his wife, Claudia Ficca, from Montreal, turned potholes into art in a photography project that focuses on the cracks and holes in streets from New York and Los Angeles to Toronto and Montreal. The project started as a funny way to expose the frustrating pothole problem in the couple’s hometown. “Along the way we realized that sometimes we can’t change things that frustrate us (like potholes), but we have the power to change our perspective toward those things,” Luciano said about the project, which has been ongoing since 2009. To take the images, they fill their car with props, locate potholes for each scene and ask friends and family members to model while they shoot the scenes during breaks in traffic.
