A new two-day event bringing boot camp to Brooklyn, but not in the way you might be thinking.
Created by Stitchdown, a locally based buyer’s resource dedicated to quality footwear, is launching Boot Camp, a two-day immersive and educational event for those who are passionate about footwear. The event will showcase 20 of the best boot- and shoemakers from around the world as well as several of the best leather tanneries in the business.
The event will take place on Oct. 6-7 at Brooklyn’s Industry City. Participating brands include Nicks Boots, Grant Stone, Meermin, Crown Northampton, and Viberg Boot, to name a few.
“In a world of disposable footwear, there’s something truly special about handmade boots and shoes,” said Stitchdown founder Ben Robinson. “When you begin to understand how they’re made, often with timeless processes, that’s when the light bulb really starts to go off. It’s taken well over a year to gather up the group of makers we have in place and we couldn’t be more excited to have them share their craft with our guests.”
Those who attend Boot Camp will be able to discover the proper sizing of shoe or boot, as well as shop around some limited edition and pre-order product drops, or they can shop the Super Sample Sale, headlined by Canadian superbrand Viberg, and find some huge discounts. Chicago’s famed Horween Leather Co. will be on site to display its products and drive a deeper understanding of its processes.
Ticketholders can also view (and try their hand at) shoe-making demos from Northampton England’s E. Woodford, attend a lineup of live industry panels, watch hand-painted patina art occurring live and on display from Perera, and check out an on-site workbench space with Brooklyn’s own bespoke shoemaker Francis Waplinger. The summit will also host an array of food and drink options from Industry City’s food hall, complimentary Smartwater for all, and more.
Tickets start at $29.99 and are available in 1 Day GA Ticket, 2 Day GA Ticket, and 2 Day VIP Ticket tiers. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.stitchdownbootcamp.com or follow @stitchdownbootcamp on social media.
