A Bronx construction worker was killed in a jobsite incident on Thursday morning, police reported.
Authorities are investigating the dig site located on 1861 Carter Ave. in Mount Hope after an unidentified man was struck and killed by a digger at around 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 15.
The worker’s body, covered in a blood-covered white sheet, could be observed lying beside a large machine as NYPD officers shutdown construction.
Fire Department sources said the worker went into cardiac arrest after being struck, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The exact cause of his death remains under investigation, and police have yet to release his identity.
“It is really sad. Those machines are so dangerous. It sucks,” a neighbor told amNewYork Metro as they watched the flashing lights from the emergency vehicles.

Workers were in the process of erecting a new affordable housing apartment building at the site, which is slated to put a roof over the heads of those who have lived with homelessness and mental illness. The site is set to host some 163 units at the location.
A representative from the Department of Buildings was also on site investigating the death.
amNewYork Metro reached out to the Department of Buildings for comment and is awaiting a response.
