Bronx hit-and-run driver strikes and kills man on Bruckner Expressway: cops

A hit-and-run driver in the Bronx struck and killed a 51-year-old man on the Bruckner Expressway early Sunday morning.

Police say the unidentified man was found at about 5:20 a.m. on July 21 with severe traumatic injuries lying on the expressway’s northbound lanes, near Exit 8B into Pelham Bay Park, and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

Video posted on Citizen appears to show the man’s body, covered in a white sheet, in the highway’s shoulder lane. Police have not yet released his identity.

The NYPD says the man appears to have been struck by the driver of an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene and has not been caught. Police did not know why the victim was walking on the Bruckner Expressway.

The incident remains under investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad.

Through mid-July, the city has seen 136 deaths from traffic collisions in 2024, up over 5% from the same time last year, according to NYPD statistics.
