Bronx detectives continue to seek the suspect who shot a man to death outside the victim’s home on Thursday night.
Law enforcement sources said Angel Rojas, 30, was gunned down in front of the apartment building where he lived, at 1955 Sedgwick Ave. in University Heights, at about 9:12 p.m. on Sept. 7.
Officers from the 46th Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the incident, found Rojas shot multiple times in the torso.
Moments earlier, according to sources familiar with the investigation, Rojas had become embroiled in a verbal dispute with the suspected shooter moments before he was mortally wounded.
After firing the fatal shots, law enforcement sources said, the suspect — described only as an unknown man — entered a nearby gray sedan that sped away from the scene in an unknown direction.
EMS rushed Rojas to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Through Sept. 3, the 46th Precinct tallied eight homicides so far in 2023, two fewer than the 10 reported at the same point last year, according to the most recent CompStat report. Shootings, however, are up in 2023, with 31 incidents during the period, a 14.8% increase from the 27 that took place through Sept. 3, 2022.
As for Thursday night’s deadly shooting, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said.
