Man shot dead in the Bronx after argument: cops

A man in the Bronx was fatally gunned down on Saturday night — and the suspect remains on the lam, authorities said Sunday.

The deadly shooting unfolded outside of an apartment building located at 689 East 233 St. in Wakefield at around 11:35 p.m. on Nov. 23.

According to police sources, two men became embroiled in a verbal dispute that eventually escalated into gunfire.

Officers from the 47th Precinct rushed to the scene after receiving 911 calls reporting that a person had been shot. The arriving officers discovered a 25-year-old man lying on the ground with a bullet wound to the back.

EMS rushed him to Jacobi Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have not yet released his identity, pending family notification.

Law enforcement sources described the gunman as wearing a black jacket, gray sweatshirt, gray pants, and white sneakers, who fled on foot after the shooting in an unknown direction.

No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Bronx has seen an 11% increase in shooting victims this year. According to NYPD database CompStat, 383 people have been shot in the borough compared to 345 in 2023.
