Cops are looking for the gunman who shot a man to death in front of a Bronx apartment building Saturday night.
Police say officers responded to a 911 call of an assault near Sheridan Avenue and East 169th Street at approximately 10:58 p.m. on Feb. 25. Upon arrival, cops found the victim — a 29-year-old man whose identity has not yet been released — with gunshot wounds to the chest and head.
He was taken by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was pronounced dead.
There have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
In Bronx’s 44th Precinct, where Saturday night’s shooting occurred, reported shootings are down 50 percent year-to-date when compared to 2022. According to Police Department data, there were three reported shootings in the area as of Feb. 19 (when the most recent data is available) — down from six during that same time frame last year. Murders, however, have doubled per the data (up from two year-to-date in 2022 to four so far in 2023).
Citywide, shootings also remain down. As of Feb. 19, there were 123 reported shootings across the five boroughs, according to the data, down 20 percent from 154 in 2022.
