Cops continue to investigate the death of a Brooklyn man who was fatally run over by a car Thursday night while lying on a Manhattan street.
Authorities said the incident occurred at 6:50 p.m. on Dec. 26 near the corner of West 116th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue in Harlem.
According to information obtained by police, Paul Cedres, 58, was lying in the right lane of West 116th Street when he was run over by a 2008 Saturn, operated by an 81-year-old man, traveling eastbound on the roadway.
Sources familiar with the investigation said Cedres had attempted to cross West 116th Street and apparently fell into the roadway seconds before he was struck.
Cops said the driver stopped his vehicle and remained at the scene.
Officers from the 28th Precinct and EMS units responded to the incident. Paramedics rushed Cedres to Mount Sinai/St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Cedres lived at a homeless shelter on Atlantic Avenue in Brownsville, Brooklyn — about 12 miles away from where he died.
No charges have been filed against the driver. The case is in the hands of the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad.
With less than a week remaining in 2019, the city’s experienced an increase in pedestrian deaths. Through Nov. 30, according to city data, there were 198 deaths — six higher than the number recorded in all of 2018.
It’s expected that the total number of pedestrian fatalities in 2019 will exceed more than 215, thanks in part to a rash of deadly collisions in the run-up to Christmas.
