New data that the city’s Health Department released Sunday afternoon shows the coronavirus pandemic continuing to take a horrific toll on the five boroughs.
As of 4:15 p.m. March 29, there were 33,474 positive coronavirus cases and 776 related deaths. That’s 98 more fatalities than the 678 coronavirus-related deaths reported earlier Sunday morning.
Queens continues to be the city’s hot zone in the outbreak, with 10,737 cases, 253 of which were fatal.
Brooklyn has the second-highest coronavirus cases in the city with 8,887 infections and 185 deaths, followed by the Bronx with 6,250 infections and 188 deaths, Manhattan with 5,582 infections and 103 deaths, and Staten Island with 1,984 infections and 46 deaths.
Approximately 22% of all coronavirus patients in New York City (7,410) have required hospitalization, the Health Department noted.
Saturday night, two high profile New Yorkers were diagnosed with coronavirus: MTA Chairman and CEO Pat Foye and New York Knicks Owner James Dolan. Both are self-isolated and recuperating at home.
On Sunday, news came that Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz also came down with COVID-19.
