Live shows are coming back to Coney Island this summer and fall with a new line-up for the Music of Curiosities series.
Since 2018, Music of Curiosities has been connecting a diverse group of musicians and performers, particularly outsider, experimental, and LGBTQIA+ performers, to audiences in Coney Island. The 2022 line-up will showcase the most imaginative and audacious musical performers.
The new season at Music of Curiosities will kick off on Saturday, May 28 at 9 p.m. in Coney Island USA’s new renovated “Shooting Gallery” arts annex. Now a performance space, the Shooting Gallery arts annex housed numerous businesses in the past and contains an actual World War II-era old-fashioned shooting gallery, from which the venue takes its name.
The May 28 show, entitled “PNK VLVT WTCH FEST,” will be hosted by comic Billie Bullock and feature performances by The God Bombs, Pnk Vlvt Wtch, Dylan Mars, Koko Banx, and Luxtress. Magie Serpica from Milk and Honey Tattoo will be onsite offering a special set of limited edition flash tattoos that you can get while watching the show.
On June 25, Music of Curiosities will host “Qveen Of Atlantis Music Fest” with performances by The Destruct Principle, Afterus, Tryst, and Pnk Vlvt Wtch and Obsidian Absurd. On July 23, Coney Island USA’s legendary Sideshows by the Seashore are back with The Flushing Remonstrance performing a live score over Kenneth Anger films, and an opening set by Pnk Vlvt Wtch.
Later this summer on Aug. 27, Charming Disaster will host their 10th anniversary show with a set by The Mary Lous. On Sept. 23, Sideshow Opera and Gender Clown will take the stage for a one-of-a-kind show.
Music of Curiosities will conclude its season on Oct. 28 with a screening of “Nosferatu” with a live score performed by The Flushing Remonstrance. The night will also feature performances by new wave/glam rock duo Theophobia and performance art by Glitter Macabre.
Coney Island USA is located at 1208-1214 Surf Avenue. Tickets for the shows cost $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the show. For more information, visit www.coneyisland.com or email musicofcuriositiesconeyisland@gmail.com.
