Detectives in Brooklyn charged the son of a senior couple found stabbed to death in their apartments over their weekend with the barbaric double homicide, police announced Monday morning.
Meyer Sperber, 46, who resided with his parents, Jacob and Rachel Sperber, in Borough Park, faces two counts each of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
The Sperbers, both 75 years of age, were found dead inside the home on 45th Street at about 5:20 p.m. on Jan. 21.
Officers from the 66th Precinct and the NYPD Emergency Services Unit descended upon the location after receiving a 911 call reporting that a senior married couple had been attacked inside their second-floor apartment.
Upon entering the location, cops discovered the senior Sperbers with stab wounds all across the bodies. The pair were rushed to Maimonides Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.
Police sources said that Meyer Sperber allegedly barricaded himself inside the residence, leading to a standoff that lasted about an hour. He then turned himself over to police without further incident, and taken to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
The motive for the homicide has not yet been disclosed as this time, police sources said Monday. Arraignment information for the suspect was not yet available.
