Bullets flew across the East New York section of Brooklyn between Saturday night and Sunday morning, leaving three men dead in two separate shootings that occurred within an hour’s time, police reported.
Detectives are questioning a 22-year-old man connected to the first shooting, on Saturday night that left a 25-year-old man dead and a young woman seriously injured.
The most serious incident, however, occurred just after midnight Sunday in which five men were wounded, two fatally, in a mass shooting at the corner of Georgia and Wortman Avenues.
Law enforcement sources had few details about what set off the violence at about 12:33 a.m. on Aug. 8. Officers from the 75th Precinct responded to the location through a ShotSpotter activation; ShotSpotter is the NYPD’s network of sensors designed to detect possible sounds of gunfire, and provoke a quick police response.
Upon arriving at the scene, cops found three victims shot multiple times inside a vehicle at the location.
One of the victims, a 36-year-old man who had been shot in the head, died after being brought by EMS to Brookdale University Hospital. The other man, also 36 years of age, who had taken bullets to his face, chest and arm, succumbed to his injuries at Kings County Hospital.
A third individual inside the vehicle, a 51-year-old man, had been hit in the right forearm, upper back and chest, authorities said. EMS rushed him to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition.
Two other men were also shot at nearby 101 Wortman Ave., including a 32-year-old man who had been struck in the chest and neck. Police said he’s listed in critical condition at Brookdale Hospital.
Officers later learned that the second victim at 101 Wortman Ave., a 37-year-old man shot in the right shoulder, had been brought by private means to Montefiore Hospital in New Rochelle. He’s listed in stable condition.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, law enforcement sources said.
Meanwhile, detectives are questioning the 22-year-old suspect in the deadly Saturday night shooting, which occurred at about 11:23 p.m. on Aug. 7 in the area of 580 Pennsylvania Ave. in East New York.
Officers from the 75th Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the shooting, encountered a 25-year-old man who had been rendered unconscious and unresponsive after being shot multiple times in the chest.
Cops also found a 19-year-old woman with a bullet wound to her torso.
EMS rushed the male victim to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Police have withheld his identity, pending family notification.
Paramedics brought the injured woman to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.
While at the scene, officers apprehended the suspect and took him into custody. A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered.
Charges against the suspect are pending the results of the ongoing investigation, police said.
