Brooklyn detectives are working hard to find two people who dropped off a bruised, unconscious child at a local hospital on Sunday who died a short time later.

According to police sources, staff at SUNY Downstate Medical Center told officers from the 67th Precinct that two people dropped off the unconscious 3-year-old boy around 11:30 a.m. on March 9. The pair of unidentified people then fled the hospital by car.

Medical staff said the boy was already unresponsive and had signs of bruising on his body. He was later pronounced dead; the child’s identity is pending, police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The death initiated a massive police investigation that saw detectives quizzing staff and combing over surveillance video.

A hospital staff member told PIX11 News that a female left the child but fled when she was questioned.

“She just left. She just took off. She had a car parked, waiting for her. And they just left,” PIX11 News reported.
