A video circulating on Twitter seemed to show a New York City Fire Department member heckling pro-abortion protestors on May 7, however, FDNY officials have responded, denying that the individual was in any way affiliated with the FDNY.
The video, posted by Joshua Potash on the social media app, depicts a group of men standing on the steps of the Basilica of Old St Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan shouting across the street to protestors. At least one individual appears to be wearing clothing with an FDNY logo.
“A video circulating from a protest in Manhattan over the weekend shows an individual wearing a FDNY sweatshirt,” said FDNY Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, Frank Dwyer. “The individual in the video is not a member of the FDNY. The comments made do not represent the views of the FDNY. The matter is under investigation.”
The individual in FDNY clothing appears to yell to protestors that they do not have a choice in having children and that one protestor’s body is “his” and that they will have his baby.
Following the viral video’s circulation, conservative politicians like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rep. Paul Gosar called the man a “hero”.
amNew York is awaiting further comment from the Archdiocese of New York and Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
