A homeless man was arrested Thursday on charges that he brutally assaulted a young woman walking along a Manhattan street the previous morning, police announced.
Eugene C. Webb, 26, faces two counts of assault and a harassment charge, cops reported.
The NYPD said the attack occurred at 6:10 a.m. on Jan. 8 in the vicinity of Houston Street and Second Avenue, near the Lower East Side’s First Park.
Law enforcement sources said the 23-year-old female victim was walking through the area when Webb allegedly “aggressively approached” her. Without any provocation, cops reported, Webb allegedly brutalized the woman, punching her multiple times in the face.
After knocking her to the ground, authorities noted, the suspect took off in an unknown direction.
Officers from the 6th Precinct responded to the incident. EMS brought the victim to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center, where she was treated for facial and oral injuries.
Police video released on Jan. 8 shows the suspect, later identified as Webb, quickly walking through the area.
